Today’s devotion is called, ” A commandment of love ”
1st John 2: 8 says, Again a new commandment I write to you, which thing is true in Him and you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining. In verse 7 John said, no new commandment I write? Jesus cleared this up in Sermon on the mount, Matthew Chapters 5-7. When He began to clear up the 10 commandments. He said, You have heard it said to those of old, but I say to you. Rabbis had taken the law and distorted it. The 10 commandments are commandments of love. If you love your neighbor you won’t steal from them, or murder them, and Jesus makes it clear that if you have done this in your heart, you’ve done it, in the sermon on the mount. Exodus 20:2-17 and Deut 5:6-21 are commandments of love for us to follow because now they are written in our hearts, 2nd Corinthians 3:3, We are a commandment of love. The true light shining is Jesus and He gave us the example to follow. God is love 1st John 4:8. Let’s be love because God is love and now love lives in us. Galatians 5:22-23. Years ago when Tina and I came to calvary chapel what won our hearts was the love of God’s people. Love you can see and feel. John 13:35, By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.
